About

My hair probably isn’t this colour or style anymore, but this is a very recent version of me.

I’m Connie, I have a hamster called Croissant, and I’ve recently graduated from MSc Freshwater and Marine Ecology at QMUL. I’m currently working in the Philippines as a research assistant, collecting data on the ecology of whale sharks. I want to help save the world, but I don’t quite know how yet.

This is Croissant. He’s huge. Is also the light of my life.

I graduated in BSc Zoology (Hons) in 2017, and since have been wanting to pursue a career in marine science (whilst secretly actually wanting to be a Jurassic Park ranger…or a wildlife documentary maker/presenter). Although I want to be a scientist, I have always loved writing. Diaries, short stories, research papers – I’ll write ’em all. I wanted to start a blog that integrates the work in the science world, with the challenges one may face when trying to get into said world. So much that gets discovered is missed by the public, and I feel it’s important to get that knowledge out there, hence why I will share many a story about the inhabitants of the natural world whilst I share my own.

As a scientist, you keep a field notebook when you go out into the big wide world. This book will contain everything you do out there; navigating the problems, the successes, the next steps…anything that goes on whilst you’re researching your surroundings. This here is my version of a field notebook, but as I try to navigate the world of science.

I would love to get others as enthralled, inspired and enamored by the natural world as I am. Hopefully this will help, just a bit, so other people will want to save the world too.
